Sunflower Mission (SM) was founded in 2002 with the dream of “100 Years of Sustainability.” This requires succession planning to be intentional and organic.

Students Expanding Education by Donating Services (SEEDS) was founded in 2007 to serve as the youth board and pipeline of future leaders. As SEEDS thrive and assume increasing responsibilities, the Principal Founder of the organization, Ms. Duy-Loan Le, formed the Circle of Stewardship in 2019 to safeguard the 4 bedrock elements that define and differentiate SM:

1. Caring Culture: Thoughtful devotion & selfless service fuel the essence of humanity required for our work: we encourage, enable, and empower. We are not a charity.

2. Ethical Governance: Competent leadership & moral wisdom provide dutiful oversight to protect the organization through all challenges.

3. Focused Execution: Global perspective & business experience facilitate operational excellence without distraction: education and education only.

4. Financial Foresight: Planning for the future & responsible investment yield operational stability in all economic storms & financial crisis.

Four families anchor the Circle of Stewardship, each fulfilling the following criteria:

  • Both parents have served as core members of SM for a minimum of 3 years

  • At least one parent has held a leadership position within SM

  • At least one child of the family must have been an officer of SEEDS

  • The family must have participated in at least 1 workcamp

The families are:

  • Mai-Huong & Thanh Bui (parents to Vincent Bui, Dalton Bui, and Ethan Bui) hold the key to our Caring Culture

  • Kim-Oanh Nguyen & Dr. Anthony Hoang Phi (parents to Gabby Phi, Nikky Phi, Zachary Phi, and Jonathan Phi) hold the key to our Ethical Governance

  • Hoai-Anh Nguyen & Khiem Ngo (parents to Kody-Khoi Ngo, Kobe-Khang Ngo, and Kory-Khai Ngo) hold the key to our Focused Execution

  • Duy-Loan Le & Tuan N. Dao (parents to Dan Q. Dao, and Don Q. Dao) hold the key to our Financial Foresight
