Dear Sunflower Mission Members, Supporters, and Friends,
Spring brings life to many growing things, and for those of us at Sunflower Mission, spring also brings trips to our schools to award the 2nd installment of scholarships, and planning the annual workcamp that occurs as soon as the US academic year is over.
We'd like to take this opportunity to get together, have some fun, and also share the latest activities. Please do join us for an afternoon of friendship and fun.
What: An Afternoon with Sunflower Mission (Potluck Lunch and Social)
When: Saturday, April 11th, from 12 noon to 3PM
Where: Private Residence in Sugar Land; directions will be sent to all that RSVP.
Re: Food:
The organizing team will provide some main dishes - including fried rice, chicken fingers, dumplings, salad, and drinks. We'd be grateful if some of you could bring a dish - whether a main dish, appetizers, or fruit. If you could bring something, please do indicate your dish in the RSVP.
Whether you could bring food or not, please do join us! And bring the entire family as little ones are entitled to have fun, too!
This event is being coordinated by Sunflower Mission's teen volunteers. If you'd like to offer your help to the organizing team, please email NaNhi Tran at: lil_asian_piglet @ yahoo.com
We look forward to seeing you on April 11th!
Wishing you and your family a beautiful spring!

Our Goals
By Quyen Ma
One of the goals of Sunflower Mission is to provide opportunities for younger members to step up and take on larger responsibilities. The Annual Social was that chance. Serving as a first time mentor, I was concerned about my own abilities. Could I corral an energetic young group into some type of constructive order? On a cloudy April day that threatened rain and ruin, the young SM members put on an incredibly successful and fun event. An eager group of 70 people gathered in Sugar Land for a social hosted by the junior members of Sunflower Mission, also known as L.E.G.s or the “League of Extraordinary Geniuses.”

Event Summary
By Vi-An Nguyen
To prepare for the event, we conducted two meetings to figure out the schedule, food, and activities for the day. Although we had disagreements and some confusion, we were fortunate enough to have had our mentor, Quyen Ma, to help supervise and provide some guidance. It was decided that the event would be potluck style and that each guest was invited to bring their own dish.
As guests arrived at the house, they were greeted by cheery L.E.G. members and asked to sign a banner with colorful hand prints meant to represent the helping hands we provide for Vietnam. Near the lake was the food table where guests could put their items! What a spread we had, everyone enjoyed fried rice, pad thai, pizza, a variety of fruits, snacks, and so much more food then we could even consume.
L.E.G. president Nanhi Tran called for the games to begin! As the teens and adults headed off to complete a scavenger hunt, kids seven and under enjoyed an easter-egg hunt! Some games included a full-body version of “rock, paper, scissors” everyone had so much fun the participants wanted to play it twice!
As if all the food was not enough, a cake was brought out for all the April birthdays. As we all wound down after all the events, we had a guest, Ms. Julie Eberly, from Prepared 4 Life, come to speak to the L.E.G. and young members about promoting Sunflower Mission through a national event called Lemonade Day held on May 3rd, 2009. This provided us with another opportunity to do charitable work. We will have a Lemonade Stand in the Sugar Land Town Square from 5-8 pm on May 3rd.
