A Breath of Fresh Air

Day 3 of Work Camp, feeling accomplished!
Today’s weather was bearable, not scorching hot, not raining, no hat needed … OK I lied! The first hour was a breath of fresh air; after that: hair up, hat on and things got done.
We lugged all of our supplies to the school this morning in preparation for workshop day tomorrow. While lugging boxes and boxes of supplies from the bus into the school, I saw two little friends who were enjoying the swing set we installed yesterday. As an elementary teacher, I couldn’t help stopping by to ask for their names, grade and if they’re going to be coming to the school.
Seeing them swing reminded me of a song: “Ngay Ay Dau Roi” about the innocence and fond memories, and simplicity of childhood. It was a breath of fresh air.
It truly made me appreciate things more when I saw the condition and the state these kids are in. Thank you sunflower mission for allowing me to go on my second Work camp, to be reminded of how much I really have and appreciate the things in life, big and small.
