Trust the Process
by Bella Hoang
Varnishing. Probably one of the most tedious jobs. Too much and it’s streaky; too little and the paint peels. You can barely see it when it’s painted on and sometimes wonder, “Am I even doing it right?” Despite these difficulties, you just have to trust the process. You might doubt it at first, but the result turns out exactly like you wanted it. A painted wall protected by the barely-there clear coat that will last for years, which is how I’ll know that the hard work we’ve all poured into throughout the week will still be preserved for many generations to come, providing a new path of education for future students. At the Sunflower Mission work camp, many times I’ve wondered, “Is this going to work, or what happens if something goes wrong?” However, as the long hour days trudge on everything starts piecing together. The playground coming to fruition, computers being set up, and the varnishing finally drying clear.
