Building a Mountain

We Vietnamese people have a proverbial saying:

“Một cây làm chẳng nên non, Ba cây chụm lại nên hòn núi cao.”

This basically means that one stick cannot do anything; it is just a stick.

However, combining three sticks can build a mountain. Though I learned this proverb many years ago in Vietnamese school, it has stuck in my mind because I have seen it proven true to me time and time again in everything that I do. In marching band, it takes all 250 people, each with a single common goal, working together to put on a show. With the Sunflower Mission, it is no different. One person could paint the entire school, but that would take forever. 70 people, however, will make painting easy peasy.

To fulfill the task of providing the opportunity for education for hundreds of children, it takes a large amount of people with a common goal. It makes me extremely happy to see so many people dedicated to that goal. Let us be those sticks that hold each other up and build that mountain together so that we can give those too small an opportunity to stand tall.
